Liquid Damage Realities

A common claim regarding liquid damage is that it does not ruin your device. The truth is, yes it does.

Occasionally, devices may still work after they have been exposed to a liquid, such as water or even soft beverages. However, we cannot guarantee for how long the device will function. At IllawarraTechie we recommend backing up your data (if possible) and replacing the affected device ASAP. Data retrieval is the most realistic outcome in these situations.

A common myth for liquid damage treatment is to submerge the affected device in rice. The truth is you may be doing more harm than good, dust, starch and small grains of rice can get lodged in the mechanisms of your phone. Instead, place a few silica gel packets on top and underneath your device, most importantly resist the urge to power on the device until it has been assessed by an experienced technician.

** DATA RETRIEVAL ONLY **

At IllawarraTechie we may be able to replace some parts for data recovery. However, we are not able to guarantee a successful data retrieval.

The Facts on Liquid Damage

  • Reviving a device with liquid damage is totally unpredictable. It all depends on what the liquid was, how long it was submerged, and how much actually got into the device.

  • If you have attempted to recharge the device after submersion, or your device is presenting 'no power on' symptoms we will not attempt to revive and recommend going through lab data recovery.

  • Liquid damage is generally a lengthy and complicated issue. Same day service is UNREALISTIC.
